Afrobeats is no longer a sound you only hear in Lagos, Accra or London. Over the last few years it has become part of club nights, festivals and private parties across Switzerland, and Zürich is right in the middle of it. If you are looking for Afrobeats in Zürich, this guide explains what the sound is, why it works so well on Swiss dance floors and who is bringing it to the stage.

What is Afrobeats?

Afrobeats is modern West African pop music. It grew out of Nigeria and Ghana and mixes African rhythms and percussion with pop, dancehall, R&B and hip-hop. The result is music that is warm, melodic and made to dance to, which is why it travels so easily across languages and borders.

Today the sound has many close relatives:

  • Afro-House: Afrobeats energy on a house tempo, built for long club sets.
  • Amapiano: the South African style with deep log-drum basslines and slow, rolling grooves.
  • Afro-pop: the softer, more melodic side, often about love and life.
  • Afro hip-hop: rap and storytelling over African rhythms.

Why Afrobeats works in Zürich

Zürich is one of the most international cities in Europe. People from all over the world live, work and go out here, and Afrobeats speaks to all of them. You do not need to understand every lyric to feel the groove. That is what makes it such a strong choice for clubs, festivals, company events and weddings where the crowd is mixed.

The city also has a large African diaspora that has kept the music alive at parties, concerts and community events for years. Together with Switzerland’s love for house and electronic music, this created the perfect space for Afrobeats and Afro-House to grow.

NazB: an Afrobeats artist from Zürich

NazB is a Nigerian-born, Zürich-based Afrobeats, Afro-House and hip-hop artist. Born Michael Ikenna Ozigbo in Anambra State, Nigeria, he left home at 18 to follow music and spent years travelling through Mali, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Senegal, South Africa, Suriname and Brazil before making Zürich his home.

His music brings all of that together: Afrobeats melodies, Afro-House and Amapiano grooves, and hip-hop storytelling. In 2025 he released Ikenna, a 21-track album named after his Igbo first name, followed in 2026 by Lonely Days Are Gone and the single It’s Easy to Luv You. His songwriting has earned a Billboard Honourable Mention.

On stage, NazB has performed across Switzerland and abroad, including supporting Davido at The Hall in Dübendorf, and shows in Bern, Lugano, Germany, Mauritius, Nigeria and India. You can see past and upcoming dates on the Shows page.
